Coffee + Mural Community Paint Day

  • Addis Ethiopian Restaurant 3647 El Cajon Boulevard San Diego, CA, 92104 United States (map)

COFFEE + MURAL PAINTING!

Help us paint our Cherokee St mural and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee in community.

FREE EVENT — In collaboration with Akitso (who helped us on our remodel and rebrand) and ArtReach San Diego’s Mural Program — Addis Ethiopian will honor both our homes, Ethiopia and San Diego via a painted mural on Cherokee St!

But, we need your help painting it!

DETAILS:

  • Saturday, September 20, 2025

  • 10:00am-1:00pm

  • All ages welcome (from beloved kids to beloved senior citizens)

  • No art experience required (ArtReach team will be guiding us all!)

*Only 40 spots, please RSVP so we can host you!

How it works:

  1. Arrive between 10am-11am to receive your complimentary freshly brewed Ethiopian coffee, served in Traditional Ceremony fashion. Tea will be provided as an alternative for non coffee drinkers.

  2. Mural painting will be taking place in our parking lot behind the restaurant (we’ll be painting the mural together on a special mural canvas cloth where the ArtReach team will be installing onto the wall at a later date). ArtReach will provide all mural painting materials necessary including smocks and aprons.

  3. We’d love to offer 15% off your meal if you choose to stay for lunch or come back for dinner!

  4. If you’re following us on Instagram, we’ll let you know when the mural has been completed so you can see it in its full glory!

Ft. ArtReach San Diego

ArtReach’s Mural Program works directly with the local community to dream up large collaborative works that represent their vision. Commissioned by Akitso, ArtReach will be collaborating with Addis and our community on the mural on our Cherokee St. wall.

FT. AKITSO

Founded by daughter of immigrant restaurant owners, Akitso is a nonprofit design studio that exists to ensure that independent, small-scale, mom-and-pop food businesses thrive—profitably and sustainably—for generations to come. Here’s what we created with them.

The site:

Once completed, the mural we paint together will be installed above the windows on our Cherokee St exterior wall.
