Experience culture, community and great coffee.
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee—an honor we take seriously. Coffee ceremonies are a daily ritual back in Ethiopia where friends and family gather to share stories, news and stay connected. We’re honoring this beloved ritual here in San Diego and we’d love for you to experience for yourself.
Gather your friends and family and enjoy freshly roasted and brewed Ethiopian beans, served in a traditional fashion. Ceremonies are $12-15 per person, and include up to three cups of coffee per person, and is served with traditional snacks.

Our new ceremony area
Come help us break in the new ceremony area! With special help from Akitso, we’re most proud of a bigger and grander area to host guests for coffee ceremonies!
Before
Founded by daughter of immigrant restaurant owners, Akitso is a nonprofit design studio that exists to ensure that independent, small-scale, mom-and-pop food businesses thrive—profitably and sustainably—for generations to come. Here’s what we created with them.
-
Up to 3 cups of freshly brewed Ethiopian coffee, traditional snacks (popcorn and Ethiopian bread "defo/dabo" or "ambasha") and an incredibly unique and authentic coffee drinking experience.
-
We strive to complete all 3 pours within 1 hour. Guests may of course stay for lunch! Just let us know and we can get you seated with our menu after the last pour.
-
Popcorn and Ethiopian bread are included with your coffee. If you'd like something heartier, we offer our sambusas (pastry filled with spiced lentils, delicately fried, served with awaze on the side) for $2 each. You are also welcome to stay for lunch once ceremony is over (10% off same day dining).
-
Please do! Coffee ceremonies are traditionally a very social event. It is about community, friendship, hospitality. Groups 4-6 are encouraged. However you are welcome to show up and perhaps meet someone new too! That's part of the experience.
